Alice wondered through Wonderland, deep in her thoughts she barely noticed when she reached an old stone bridge. The bridge was mostly intact but some large stone blocks were missing and she had to float to the other side. There she was greeted by Cheshire, with his usual creepy and widespread smile. He was about to tell her another riddle but she interrupted him with a question.
"I've been thinking Cat, why do you look so different than when I visited Wonderland when I was a child?" she said placing her hands behind her back.
"Our physical appearance is what makes us different but it is not what defines us." he replied, waving his tail. "We are defined by our mind and what we deep worthy of mentioning from it, to other people. Thus I haven't changed just your perception of me has."
Alice raised her eyebrow to his reply, half surprised to not hear another riddle in his answer and half glad to hear it that way. This however made her remember London and the very reason she came to Wonderland, to fix the madness from spreading into it. Her train of thoughts were broken by Cheshire's observation of her world.
"You think Wonderland is mad, but look at London, look at your world. The people there value physical appearance above anything else. More than morals, culture, justice it's enough to drive any sane mind into madness. If anyone tries to speak against this atrocity you call life, they brand him a heretic, a madman and lock him away where his potential is forever wasted by a meaningless life in solitude. They fear change and thus they fear you and your logic and judgment, labeling it as mere fantasies of a troubled child while they are the ones of clouded judgment and insecure logic."
She crossed her arms and a smirk came to her face, as she looked at Cat while he stared into her emerald eyes with his amber ones, smile wiped from his face, seeking her answer. After a few minutes of thinking, wrapping her mind around what he just said, she answered him.
"You described it well, down to the last detail. I never imagined you had such a pessimistic opinion of my world, what with all your witty riddles and remarks."
"These aren't my thoughts and views Alice…..They are yours." and with that his smile reappeared and he stretched his front paws. This left Alice puzzled, she didn't expect him to answer her with another riddle, but she knew there was some truth in his words.
"Come you have wasted enough time and wasting time only leaves smashed hopes and shattered dreams. Leaving your life hollow and meaningless in that smudge you call a world. Unless you want to waste more time, you should continue to the path to your right. It will lead you to the station."
"You're right. After all I have a train to catch and it does have a hectic schedule with not return stations." she said, turning to leave to the path, leaving Cheshire to disappear behind her, but not without a final word.
"Try not to miss it, for all our sake. Or, you'll learn what true madness feels like."
This didn't sway her determination, and she continued to walk firmly, all the while hiding her doubts about her success. She shook away the fears and said to herself.
"If I don't solve this, I doubt anyone else would bother. This is my world, my mind, my madness and I don't need anymore of it."
I had this sentence in my head all day and I just had to place it on paper. Well since I finished Alice Madness Returns, I figured it would fit perfectly into the story and atmosphere :D
